Local Non-Profit “on a Roll”, as They Break Ground on another Quick Build Residential Development

New Orleans, LA – Wednesday 4, 2008

As the New Orleans Metro area along with the entire country tries to weather the worst real estate crisis in over a decade, the building of new homes and subdivisions have come to a screeching halt. Lenders are reluctantly writing loans at a much slower pace than 1 year ago. Amid all of these obstacles Peoples Community a local based non-profit is starting their 2nd new residential community in the past 12 months. Peoples Community has a proven track record of sustainable and measurable good in the communities they service. Peoples Community started a 28 property development in August of 2007, and completed construction and closed on every unit by February of 2008.

Leatrice Hollis Executive Director of Peoples Community attributes much of there success to support of the political and business leadership this organization. Ms. Hollis thanks all their political representation such as Jefferson Parish President Aaron Broussard, Councilman Byron Lee, State Senators Derrick Shepherd and David Hietmier, State Rep. Pat Connick for their political support as well as assisting with initial fundraising. Those relationships along with strong business allies such as Viola Builders and First National bank have all come together to prove to be a winning combination for all involved; however the biggest winners are still the communities they have developed and the persons they have been able to make the American dream of home of ownership a reality.

Peoples’ newest subdivision will be called “Anderson Place” is located off Ames Blvd in Marrero at Ehret Road on the westbank. Anderson Place will consist of quality built 3 Bedroom 2 Bath single family homes. Buyers interested in Anderson Place may qualify for up to $50,000.00 grant via a forgivable soft 2nd mortgage. The target market for these benefits is 1st responders, Firefighters, Police Officers, EMS Technicians, and government employees.
